Services and Contact us

Cockroaches

They are common in commercial buildings associated with the production or handling of food. They spend the day hiding in cracks and crevices around such areas as sinks, drains, cookers, behind cupboards and in refrigerator motor compartments. They are potential carriers of Dysentery, Gastroenteritis, Typhoid and Poliomyelitis. Their diet is omnivorous and includes fermenting substances, soiled septic dressings, hair, leather, wallpaper, faeces and food for human consumption.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are ectoparasite insects, which mean that they live on the outside of the body of the host. There are several ways in which premises can become infested with bedbugs. People may acquire bedbugs at hotels or bed and breakfast and bring them to your homes in luggage, infested furniture, etc. The size of a bedbug is very variable, largely dependent on the time elapsed from the initial infestation.
Treatment can be very challenging with every crack and crevice within 15 – 20 feet of the host being a possible harbourage. Although they can conceal themselves quite well in cracks and crevices, they are often found in bed parts, like mattresses and box springs. Bedbugs are not known to be frequent carriers of the disease but are a pest due to the unpleasant irritation following their bites.
Hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfast, etc success depend on delivering guest satisfaction in a safe and efficient manner. Our goal is to help you measure, improve, and maintain these critical drivers of your success.

Rodent control

Rodents can cause serious damage to your facility. Rodents carry bacteria that cause illnesses such as: Plague, Rabies, Murine Typhus, Dysentery, Salmonellosis, Typhoid, Rickettsial Pox, Trichinosis, Rat-bite fever, Weil’s disease, or Leptospirosis. We will perform the following functions and will provide you with expert advice:

  • Inspections – careful look and determine exactly where the infestation is coming from so that the problem can be tackled at the source.
  • Identification – by identifying the rodents’ characteristics and by inspecting its droppings.
  • Sanitation – The elimination of rat harbourage locations, food and water sources and the general cleanliness of the area are all essentials. Garbage heaps, old machinery, timber piles, weed growth and general litter should be removed. By removing the rodents’ food sources is a key factor in successful rodent control (garbage, etc.).
  • Rodent proofing – by closing off typical places where they can gain access.
  • Treatment – The suspicious and cunning nature of rodents can result in the actual treatment being a very specialized process. Most treatment methods involve the laying of special baits depending upon the type, size and food source of the infestation. Other methods such as tracking powders and traps may also be used.

Weed control, Bush Clearing and Tree Felling

Weeds are a serious problem throughout South Africa. Many procedures and methods are available to manage the effects of weeds. The most effective means of weed control are prevention, early detection and eradication. In the event that weeds become established, procedures and methods for weed control are available to reduce the impact. Once the initial infestation is controlled, follow up monitoring and control is required to ensure that re-infestation does not occur.

Canopy and Extractor Fan Cleaning

Why is Kitchen Extraction System Cleaning important and how often is it required? This involves Canopy Cleaning, Filter Cleaning, Fan Cleaning and Duct Cleaning throughout the building. Cleaning out the air extraction system for your commercial kitchen is one of the most important maintenance tasks in a commercial kitchen. Due to the fact that the areas involved are not easily visible or accessible to kitchen staff, Kitchen Extraction System Cleaning is easily overlooked. Cleaning of these systems requires external assistance to ensure that the cleaning is carried out properly and in compliance with SANS 1850:2012. Failure to carry out regular Kitchen Extraction System Cleaning presents a significant risk to your business.
Apart from the fire risk, a dirty Kitchen Extraction System poses a significant health risk as well. Deposits of oil and grease can harbour bacterial growth, which pose a contamination risk for food, as well as a general health risk for staff and customers. All your efforts at maintaining scrupulous food hygiene standards are wasted if there is a constant source of airborne bacteria close by. Finally, your kitchen extract system will be included as part of any general Health and Safety inspections, which can result in closure or other enforcements.

Termite Control (Pre and Post Construction)

Termites are commonly known as “white ants” even though they are not closely related to the ant family. Many people confuse termites with ants. Termites and termite colonies are remarkable for their longevity. A queen may survive and reproduce for up to 30 years and while the other castes have shorter life spans there is no difficulty in maintaining a colony of workers and soldiers for several years. Subterranean termites are considered to be amongst the most destructive insect pests in the world. They are dependent for their survival on an external moisture source and they typically dwell in soil and work through it until they reach a food source either within the soil or above ground. Thus, where there is abundant soil moisture or inadequate site drainage and where abandoned wooden building materials are left in or on the soil, the termites will thrive and are able, if a route is open or inadequately protected, to proceed into the building. If you require advice on termites, please feel free to contact The Pest King. Our experienced servicemen will be pleased to call and provide a complete survey and an obligation free quotation. These pests should not be left unattended!
